Amazon Kindle is the Most Gifted Item Ever on Amazon.com
On Christmas Day, for the First Time Ever, Customers Purchased More Kindle eBooks Than Physical Books

SEATTLE, Dec 26, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) today announced that Kindle has become the most gifted item in Amazon's history.

On Christmas Day, for the first time ever, customers purchased more Kindle eBooks than physical books. The Kindle Store now includes over 390,000 books and the largest selection of the most popular books people want to read, including New York Times Bestsellers and New Releases.

"We are grateful to our customers for making Kindle the most gifted item ever in our history," said Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com. "On behalf of Amazon.com employees around the world, we wish everyone happy holidays and happy reading!"

 eBooks Outsell Traditional Paper Books

eBooks are gaining mainstream attention worldwide. Oprah Winfrey recently endorsed eBooks and a popular electronic eBook Reading Device called the Amazon Kindle.

Over the last year eBooks have been featured on the cover and / or reviewed by many major magazines including Entertainment Weekly and reported on by many television news outlets. Even the Walt Disney Company announced this month that they are jumping on the “eBook bandwagon” and will begin offering eBooks for sale— a huge indication that eBooks Are Here To Stay. • The Amazon Kindle is also being tested in colleges across the country as a way to replace heavy textbooks.
   
• eBooks are digital so they’re cheaper than regular books, and they take up less space than physical books.
